This fascinating 4-minute video by professional medieval archer Gary Chynne shows us exactly how an archer’s body changes over time. The difference in muscle tissue and posture changes that occur from the repeated motion of pulling back on a bow.
FASCINATING: How an Archer’s Body Transforms Over Time
Left side Vs Right Side
The differences in his body are visible just from him standing naturally, his left shoulder is actually higher up than his right shoulder due to the action of him pushing the bow out. Gary also shows us the striations and the visible appearance of muscle fibers being much bigger and more pronounced on his left shoulder.
Our body adapts the best way it can
I found this fascinating because it goes to show everything we do physically over time changes us. Our bodies have this amazing ability to adapt. Whether it’s devoting your time to archery, lifting heavy bags, or spend most of your time on your feet our body does it’s best to adapt to our activities, but it can work negatively for us also, keep in mind the importance of staying away from bad postural habits, especially those of us who sit in front of a computer for most of the day.
Gary also goes on to show us on the right side from the back the difference in muscle fiber there also, the right side of his back has more cuts than the left as mentioned mainly from the repeated motion of drawing the bow back over time and engaging those muscles.
