I noticed that more and more people were talking about and taking black maca as a supplement, they claimed it was a game changer and that it’s something everyone should try out.
So this intrigued me.
If you’ve watched any of the other videos I’ve made, you’ll know that natural remedies are something that really interests me.
If there’s a supplement that can improve my performance or my overall well-being, I’m interested to know more about it.
So of course I thought I better try out some of this black maca and see if the claims about what it can do for you are actually true.
“I bought a bag of black maca powder, (…) to start taking it in my morning smoothies.”
This was initially going to be a one-month test of black maca, but because I’ve had so much going on, I’ve had to make this a two-month test.
In This Article…
Before I get into what it tastes like and what my results with it were like, I’ll just give you a brief overview of black maca
What Is Black Maca?
Black maca is a root vegetable native to Peru, maca comes in various types, yellow red and black and black maca is what’s considered the rarest and most sought-after variety
It’s been used for a very long time by the indigenous people of Peru for medicinal reasons and as a food source and the list of benefits is a long one, improved strength, energy, stamina, hormone balancing and in men particular it can increase your libido and focus.
This is a big reason why so many men are taking black maca right now.
It also has a whole list of other things too like vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
So overall, it’s supposed to be some really powerful stuff.
What Does Black Maca Taste Like?
Black maca definitely has a taste a lot of people may not like. I would definitely call it an acquired taste.
Nowhere near as strong as something like Shilajit though.
If you want to see the video of me trying Shilaljit, click here
I’d say if you’re a coffee drinker, and you actually like the taste of coffee, you might not mind it.
It’s a really earthy taste.
It’s not so bad when you add it to a smoothie because, of course, you can put some fruit in there and hide the taste, but on the first day I tried it on its own, literally on a spoon and… I didn’t like the taste.
Also, it has a sticky consistency when mixed with water, let’s say you take the powder on a spoon it sticks to your mouth and it’s hard to get rid of.
I highly recommend using the powder in a smoothie or just going for the capsules instead.
Does Black Maca Work? – My Results
Since I started taking black maca powder roughly about two months ago, I will say that I have noticed some significant strength gains above anything else.
I’ve noted improvements in numbers for my deadlift, bench, weighted pull-ups and other areas too, which of course has been awesome but quite surprising too.
I was taking the black maca for about three weeks to a month and that’s the point where I started noticing the improvements in my numbers.
I was actually starting to think that it wasn’t working, and my video review of the stuff was about to be an uneventful one. But black maca is definitely a slow burner.
I had felt my weight training numbers were at a plateau for some time, in fact, my numbers stagnated and dropped since I had a back injury in 2021. I have been slowly getting back to the numbers I was at before but I feel like since taking black maca my numbers have increased at a faster rate.
I can really only attribute the change to black maca because nothing else in my diet or lifestyle has changed significantly over this time.
I would also say that I wasn’t as motivated to push myself over my limits as much as I was before I started on this maca, so I don’t know if I would have felt like going for those higher numbers before, but I dunno, these past few weeks I’ve actually surprised myself with my motivation to see how much further I can go.
“I don’t feel as tired after a set as I did before, it’s like I’m more willing to say “f*ck it” and go for another set.”
I definitely feel like the effects accelerated for me after a certain amount of time, as if it built up in my system.
When working out, I was just willing to add more weight where I would normally be cautious not to push myself as hard if that makes sense and then I’d end up thinking “wow I didn’t think I’d be able to do that”.
I’ve gone a lot further than I thought I could.
Did I Experience Any Other Mood and Mental Benefits?
I honestly can’t say I felt any other significant differences. My state of mind over the two months has overall been OK, my sleep has been OK, and my libido has been fine too, so I can’t really say that I’ve noticed any differences in these areas.
The main thing I note has been the improvement in physical performance.
But if you’ve tried it yourself, do leave a comment below and let me know what you’re experiences of black maca were like.
Would I Recommend You Try Black Maca?
Black maca is something I will keep in my diet long term, it’s easy to take and isn’t too hard to get hold of, however, think it’s important to find a good quality product and also to take it consistently in order to get the most out of it.
“I was taking it for the best part of a month before I noticed anything different, so you do have to remain consistent, it’s not an overnight thing.”
I did look into it and there are people claiming that Black maca increases your testosterone, but I couldn’t find any hard evidence to back that up. But in terms of performance in the gym, I definitely felt a difference.

Conclusion – My Experience Does Maca Really Work?
That was me just sharing my experience taking black maca, I think it’s something I’m going to take regularly now, most definitely.
Let me below, have you tried maca root before or are you thinking of giving it a try yourself? Let me know in the comments below
With that being said, thank you for watching and I’ll see you on the next one!

It’s worth noting that while black maca has its distinct benefits, it doesn’t contain caffeine. Black Maca and Mood
Your mood might benefit from black maca, too. While the scientific evidence is limited, there are some studies that suggest black maca could have a positive effect on your mood. Give it a try and see if it works for you, but bear in mind that individual results may vary.
Black Maca and Cognitive Function
Cognitive function might see some improvement with black maca. Animal studies indicate that it could have a positive effect on memory enhancement, specifically in alcohol-induced memory impairment. But keep in mind, these are only findings from animal studies, so more research is needed in humans to say anything for certain.
Black Maca and Sexual Function
Black maca is quite often used to potentially improve sexual function, such as libido and male fertility. While the scientific evidence isn’t completely conclusive, some randomized, double-blind studies have found a connection between black maca and improvements in sexual function. Using Black Maca for Specific Conditions
If you’re looking to improve specific health conditions, black maca might be your go-to choice. This powerful root is known to have potential benefits for a variety of issues, including those related to fertility, libido, energy levels, and cognitive function. Let’s dive into some of the ways black maca can support your wellbeing.
It’s believed that black maca might be helpful in boosting fertility and reproductive health. This is especially true for men, as studies have shown it may increase sperm count and improve sexual desire. So if you’re struggling with fertility issues, adding black maca capsules to your routine might be worth considering.
When it comes to energy levels and combating fatigue, black maca could be a useful ally. Its natural energy-boosting properties may help you stay focused, sharp, and ready to take on your day. Plus, it might also work to reduce cortisol levels, which could help manage stress and anxiety.
For those experiencing menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, black maca might offer some relief. Its natural adaptogenic properties can potentially help balance hormone fluctuations during menopause, potentially reducing discomfort and mood swings.
If you’re struggling with cognitive function or memory, black maca might lend a helping hand. Its antioxidants may protect brain cells and support cognitive abilities, helping maintain your mental focus under stress.
Now, when it comes to dosage, a common recommendation is to start with a small dose, like one 500 mg capsule per day, and slowly increase as needed.
Keep in mind that it might take a few weeks to notice the effects. And, as with any supplement, it’s essential to be mindful of potential side effects. While black maca is generally considered safe, some people may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances.
Potential Contraindications and Side Effects of Black Maca
While black maca is generally considered safe for most people to consume, it’s essential to be aware of potential contraindications and side effects. Understanding these can help you make informed decisions and ensure you’re using black maca safely and effectively.
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s best to err on the side of caution and avoid using black maca during this time.
The effects on hormone levels aren’t fully understood, and there isn’t enough information available to confirm its safety during pregnancy.
It’s also a good idea to pay attention to any potential medication interactions. If you’re on any prescription medications, particularly those related to hormone therapy, it’s advisable to speak with your healthcare provider before adding black maca to your regimen. They can help you determine whether it’s appropriate for your specific circumstances and identify any potential interactions.
As for side effects, they are typically mild and uncommon. Some people may experience gastrointestinal symptoms or headaches after consuming black maca. In rare cases, there have been subjective reports of altered menstrual cycles, moodiness, cramps, gastritis, and insomnia. Keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms if you decide to try black maca, and if you’re concerned, don’t hesitate to consult your doctor for guidance.
